INEC Tests BVAS for Credible 2027 Elections in Nigeria

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has initiated testing of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices in preparation for the 2027 general elections. Dr Mutiu Agboke, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ondo State, conveyed this assurance on Friday in Akure during the 2026 edition of The Convocation, themed “Electioneering and the Future of Nigeria’s Democracy.” Represented by Olayinka Ogunseye, the Head of Voter Education, Publicity, Gender and Inclusivity, Agboke announced that a mock election would be conducted in November as part of the preparations.
He emphasized INEC's commitment to ensuring the elections are free, fair, inclusive, and acceptable. Additionally, he stated that the commission would enhance voter education and awareness to encourage greater citizen participation.
Dotun Ojon, the Ondo State Chairman of the Young Progressives Party, urged active participation in the electoral process, while Dayo Awude highlighted challenges such as high electioneering costs and internal party democracy. Henry Olonimoyo called for ongoing dialogue and civic engagement among young Nigerians.
