INEC Denies False Endorsement Claim Against Chairman

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially dismissed a false claim circulating on social media, alleging that its chairman, Joash Amupitan, endorsed a political party. The statement, issued by INEC's Chief Press Secretary, Adedayo Oketola, on Friday, described the post as entirely baseless and a total fabrication aimed at discrediting the electoral body.

INEC emphasized that Amupitan does not operate a personal account on social media and has never engaged in partisan commentary, nor has he associated with any political leanings in his private or public capacity. The commission raised concerns about the activities of cybercriminals using fake social media accounts in Amupitan's name to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians.

INEC has collaborated with security agencies to identify and prosecute those behind the impersonation and misinformation. The commission urged the public to disregard such false claims and rely on verified official channels for information, reaffirming its commitment to delivering credible elections.
