INEC Warns Against Vote Buying Ahead of Ekiti Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has flagged significant concerns regarding vote buying, political thuggery, and misinformation as the Ekiti governorship election approaches, scheduled for June 20, 2026. During a meeting in Ado Ekiti, Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi, the Ekiti State Resident Electoral Commissioner, outlined the risks that could undermine the credibility of the electoral process.

INEC is intensifying efforts to strengthen the electoral process, noting challenges such as transportation difficulties and insecurity in hard-to-reach communities. The commission plans to enhance voter education and logistics, train electoral personnel, and engage political parties, traditional rulers, civil society organizations, and the media to ensure a successful election.

Falad Micheal, the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, assured that security agencies are fully prepared to maintain a peaceful electoral environment and warned against actions that could disrupt the process. INEC and security agencies are committed to ensuring a credible, peaceful, and transparent governorship election in Ekiti State.
