INEC Intensifies Fight Against Vote Buying in Ekiti

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), led by Prof. Joash Amupitan, is taking a strong stance against vote buying as the June 20 governorship election in Ekiti State approaches. Amupitan described vote buying as a significant threat to Nigeria's electoral integrity and called for collaboration with law enforcement agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), to ensure strict enforcement of electoral laws.

He urged political parties to avoid practices that could undermine the electoral process and emphasized the importance of transparency and credibility in elections. The voter registration process has seen approximately 900,000 registered voters for the upcoming election, which is a critical milestone for ensuring that every eligible voter's voice is heard.

Amupitan also noted that political parties must scrutinize the voter register and report discrepancies within the legal timeframe to maintain electoral integrity.
