INEC Prepares for Kano Assembly By-Election This Saturday

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that six political parties will participate in the Kano State House of Assembly by-election scheduled for Saturday in Dawakin Kudu Constituency. INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kano, Abdu Zango, announced that 1,500 ad hoc staff will be deployed across 303 polling units as part of the preparations.

Following an Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) meeting, Zango stated that non-sensitive election materials have been distributed, while sensitive materials are expected to arrive on Wednesday. He assured residents of a peaceful and credible election, referencing a previous successful election in Dawakin Kudu.

Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, confirmed that security personnel would be deployed starting Thursday to ensure a peaceful process. The by-election was necessitated by the former occupant's transition to the House of Representatives.

INEC reported that there are 162,445 registered voters in the constituency, with 148,971 having collected their Permanent Voter Cards, indicating a collection rate of 91.7%.
