Kano Police Enforces Movement Ban for By-Election Security

The Kano State Police Command has implemented a restriction of movement in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area in preparation for the State Assembly by-election scheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2026. This restriction will commence at midnight on Saturday and conclude at 5:00 pm.

The decision was made in consultation with the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) and follows directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu. Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, stated that only individuals on essential duties, such as INEC officials, accredited election observers, medical workers, firefighters, and accredited journalists, will be permitted to move during this period.

A total ban on security aides accompanying VIPs and political office holders at polling units and collation centres has also been enforced. The police have warned against carrying arms and prohibited vote-buying and political canvassing near polling units.

Bakori emphasized the deployment of personnel and equipment to ensure a secure environment for voters.
