INEC Investigates Unauthorized Access to Voter Data

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has launched an investigation into allegations of unauthorized access to its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) database. This inquiry follows claims that personal voter information was disclosed publicly, particularly involving comments made by Nollywood actor Emeka Ik, who threatened legal action against a media aide of Minister Nyesom Wike for sharing voter information.

INEC Chairman Mohammed Haruna stated that the commission is taking these allegations seriously and has begun a thorough investigation to ascertain the facts surrounding the incident. Preliminary findings indicate that there has been no external breach of the CVR database, and access was made using valid user credentials.

INEC emphasized its commitment to protecting voter data and maintaining transparency. The commission is cooperating with relevant security agencies and will take appropriate legal action against anyone found culpable.
