INEC Proposes N873.78bn Budget for 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, presented a budget proposal of N873.78 billion to the joint committee on electoral matters of the National Assembly for the 2027 elections.

The budget is divided into four main components, with the largest share of N375.75 billion allocated to election operations. This includes costs directly related to conducting polls and election administration.

Additionally, N92.31 billion is earmarked for election technology costs, reflecting INEC's reliance on technology-driven processes. A significant portion of N209.21 billion is allocated to election capital costs.

The proposal also includes N41.61 billion for miscellaneous expenses, bringing the total budget to N873.78 billion. The detailed breakdown of the budget includes specific codes for different categories of expenses, ensuring transparency in the budgeting process.
