INEC Urges Media to Boost Voter Education for FCT Area Council Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called on the media to intensify voter education ahead of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council Elections scheduled for February 21, 2026. Malam Moham Haruna, the FCT Chairman of INEC's Voter Education Committee, emphasized the need for the media to uphold professional and ethical standards in election coverage.

The commission outlined key activities and timelines for the elections, including voter registration, political party participation, and the election day process. Victoria Eta Messi, the Director of Voter Education at INEC, stressed the media's role in promoting voter participation and responsible reporting.

Aminu Idri highlighted the importance of public confidence in the electoral process and the media's support in ensuring peaceful and transparent elections. Additionally, INEC disclosed the replacement of a deceased candidate in the Bwari Area Council elections and conducted a mock accreditation exercise to test election technologies across polling units in the FCT.
