INEC Assures Credible Elections in FCT for 2026

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), led by Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan, has pledged to conduct credible elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on February 21, 2026. During an assessment of the preparations in the three area councils—Kuje, Gwagwalada, and Bwari—Amupitan confirmed that the commission is ready to transmit election results in real-time from polling units.

The bimodal voter accreditation system (BIVAS) will be employed to ensure accurate reporting of election outcomes. Reports indicate that Kuje is 99.9% ready, Gwagwalada is 90.8% ready, and Bwari is fully prepared at 100%.

Amupitan emphasized that the success of the elections relies on timely deployment of materials, adequate security, and proper use of technology. He also addressed concerns regarding voter apathy and reaffirmed INEC's commitment to uphold electoral integrity.

High-ranking INEC officials accompanied Amupitan during the tour, including FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner Aminu Idri and other electoral officers.
