INEC warns against premature campaigns in Nasarawa ahead of 2027 elections

INEC has issued a warning to political aspirants in Nasarawa State against engaging in premature campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections. The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Shehu Wahab, emphasized the need to adhere to electoral guidelines and respect the democratic process during a stakeholder meeting in Lafia.

Wahab expressed concern over the indiscriminate abuse of campaign materials by aspirants outside the official campaign period, which could undermine the electoral process. He also criticized politicians for sponsoring advertisements to mobilize citizens for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, citing instances of aspirants openly declaring their 2027 ambitions.

The CVR is set to begin on August 18, 2025, with registration starting on August 25 across the state. INEC urged stakeholders to discourage underage and multiple registrations, warning violators of sanctions.

The Director of Operations in the state, Sale, outlined the services available during the CVR exercise, which will run from Mondays to Fridays, excluding public holidays.
