Gianni Infantino Launches FIFA Governance Review Initiative

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has announced the initiation of an independent review of FIFA's governance framework. This decision comes amid increasing criticism from member associations, leagues, and fan organizations concerning recent administrative decisions and fixture congestion.

Infantino communicated this move in a letter to the FIFA Council and the presidents of all 211 member associations. He proposed that the Council consider commissioning an independent external review to assess FIFA's current governance framework for major strategic initiatives and suggest improvements.

Infantino acknowledged that previous proposals had caused concern among stakeholders, as they were perceived as finalized decisions. He clarified that these were merely proposals subject to the Council's and Member Associations' approvals and have now been withdrawn.

He assured that stakeholders would have opportunities to present their views in future discussions and emphasized that no association's treatment would be influenced by its stance on any proposal.
