PAC Criticizes Call to Suspend Elections Over Insecurity

The Political Advocacy Centre (PAC) has condemned the call made by Fred Agbedi, the minority leader of the House of Representatives, urging President Bola Tinubu to suspend activities related to the 2027 general elections to focus on addressing insecurity and economic hardships in Nigeria. PAC described Agbedi's remarks as politically motivated and unhelpful in tackling the country's security challenges.

They emphasized that while concerns about insecurity are valid, political leaders should avoid turning national security into a partisan issue. PAC's statement, issued on a Monday, criticized Agbedi's suggestion that the President should resign if security challenges are not resolved within six months, labeling it reckless.

The organization stressed that addressing insecurity requires a collaborative effort among government institutions, security agencies, local communities, and political actors, rather than public exchanges that could deepen political divisions. They called for practical policy alternatives from opposition leaders and reaffirmed support for the federal government's efforts to improve security and revive the economy.
