Calls for State Police Intensify Amid Rising Insecurity

In Nigeria, there are renewed calls for the establishment of state police to combat the rising insecurity and kidnapping incidents across the country. This plea comes in the wake of a significant abduction event on May 15, where 45 individuals, including teachers, students, and a two-year-old child, were kidnapped in Oyo State.

Governor of Oyo State has accused the federal government of deceiving Nigerians regarding the security situation, highlighting a general feeling of helplessness among citizens. Reports from Amnesty International indicate that at least 1,100 people were abducted in the northern part of Nigeria from January to April.

The governor's statements reflect a broader concern about the failure of state and federal authorities to ensure safety, leading communities to resort to self-help measures, including forming local militias.
