Obi Calls for Tinubu's Resignation Over Insecurity Crisis

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resign for the sake of Nigeria, citing worsening insecurity and governance failures. Obi pointed to the ongoing crisis in Oyo State, where 39 schoolchildren and seven teachers were kidnapped on May 15, 2026, with no substantial rescue efforts made.

He expressed concern over the lack of empathy and decisive action from the Tinubu administration, noting that the president has not reached out to the Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, regarding the crisis. Obi recalled past leadership failures during the tenures of former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, and Goodluck Jonathan, emphasizing the need for accountability.

He criticized the current administration for a pattern of inaction in response to security threats, highlighting that 13 school kidnapping incidents have occurred under Tinubu's leadership. Obi's appeal is framed as a patriotic call rather than a political maneuver, advocating for a new Nigeria amidst increasing public frustration.
