Obi Urges Tinubu to Retire if Insecurity Persists

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Party (NDC), expressed that President Bola Tinubu should contemplate retiring from politics in 2027 if he cannot effectively manage Nigeria's worsening insecurity. Obi made these comments during an interview on Channels TV’s Sunday Politics programme.

He emphasized the need for leadership capable of addressing the country's significant security challenges, referencing recent incidents where 40 people were abducted in Zamfara and another 50 in Sokoto. Obi criticized Tinubu's capacity to handle the current security crisis, stating, “His best is not enough,” and underscored that Nigeria is in a crisis requiring competent leadership.

He further remarked that if Tinubu is unable to tackle insecurity, he should retire peacefully. Obi, who previously served as the governor of Anambra State, reiterated the necessity for the government to take decisive actions to protect lives and property amidst the ongoing security emergency.
