Nigeria Launches N365 Million Research Laureate Prize

The Nigerian Federal Government has initiated the N365 million Tertiary Institutions National Laureate Prize, aimed at recognizing and rewarding exceptional research conducted by students in tertiary institutions across Nigeria. This competition encompasses undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral research across six thematic areas, with individual winners eligible for prizes of up to N100 million.

The selection process is multi-stage, involving students' institutions, regional committees, and a national judging panel. A total of 18 national thematic laureates will be recognized, with three advancing to become flagship Star Prize winners.

The Medicine and Health Sciences prize track is named the Dr. Stella Adadevoh Excellence Award in Medicine and Medical Sciences, honoring the physician known for her role in managing Nigeria’s 2014 Ebola outbreak. Participation is open to Nigerian students enrolled in accredited institutions, with entries submitted through their respective institutions.

Each institution can nominate up to 18 works per cycle, and research integrity is a critical criterion for eligibility.
