Nigeria's Military Intensifies Fight Against Oil Theft

The Nigerian military, alongside security agencies, is intensifying its battle against oil theft in the Niger Delta, a region crucial for the nation's economy, contributing 90% of revenue. The operations, codenamed "Operation Delta Safe," are coordinated by the Nigerian Army and involve multiple agencies, including the Nigerian Police Force.

Rear Admiral Olugbenga Oladipo leads the operation, which has successfully reduced pipeline vandalism and increased oil production to approximately 2.2 million barrels per day as of December 2025. Major General Eric Emekah reported that since January 24, 2025, there have been no incidents of pipeline breaches attributed to vandalism.

The military's strategy includes engaging local communities to address grievances and reduce tensions, while also conducting regular patrols and operations to disrupt illegal refining activities. Despite challenges posed by the difficult terrain and community resistance, the military remains committed to safeguarding the nation's oil assets.
