IOC Dismisses Complaint Against FIFA's Infantino Over Trump

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has dismissed a complaint from the human rights NGO FairSquare against FIFA president Gianni Infantino, alleging violations of political neutrality rules due to his support for US President Donald Trump. An IOC spokesperson confirmed that the Ethics Commission reviewed the complaint but determined it fell outside their jurisdiction, emphasizing that each International Federation maintains its independence in governance.

The IOC's oath requires its members, including Infantino, to act independently of political interests. This decision follows an earlier controversy regarding Infantino's attendance at a meeting convened by Trump, where he wore a cap referencing Trump's presidency.

In December, FIFA awarded Trump its inaugural peace prize, with Infantino acknowledging Trump's efforts to promote global peace. The IOC has also been in contact with FIFA regarding its support for sports development in Gaza, Palestine.
