IPC Condemns Governor Otti's Attack on Journalist Nwabueze

The International Press Centre (IPC) has condemned Abia State Governor Alex Otti for his verbal attack on journalist Chika Nwabueze during a media chat. Nwabueze had asked Governor Otti to verify data regarding police improvements and the economic conditions in Abia State.

Instead of addressing the question, Otti reacted angrily, telling Nwabueze to "shut up." Lanre Arogundade, the IPC Executive Director, criticized Otti's condescending response, stating that it is unacceptable for an elected leader to react in such a manner when held accountable by citizens. Arogundade emphasized that journalists have the constitutional right to question public figures, especially those in positions of authority.

The IPC has called for Governor Otti to publicly apologize to Nwabueze, reminding public office holders of their accountability and the expectation of being subject to public scrutiny.
