IPOB Rejects Nnamdi Kanu's Life Sentence, Cites Legal Irregularities

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has rejected the life imprisonment sentence handed to its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, by a Nigerian court in Abuja. IPOB spokesperson, Emma Powerful, criticized the judgment, claiming Kanu committed no offense under Nigerian law and accusing the judge of delivering an unconstitutional verdict.

The group argues for the criminalization of self-determination to be addressed internationally and demands a UN-supervised referendum for Biafra. Kanu's absence during the trial, alleged security force killings of IPOB members, and the group's engagement with human rights organizations were highlighted.

IPOB plans to appeal the judgment.
