Iran Plans Friendly Match with Nigeria Amid FIFA Verdict

Iran is preparing to schedule a friendly match against Nigeria as the Super Eagles await a decision from FIFA regarding their protest about player eligibility. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) formally lodged a complaint on December 15, alleging that six Congolese players featured in the match against Nigeria were ineligible due to recent changes in their international allegiance.

This complaint follows Nigeria's dramatic 4-3 penalty defeat to DR Congo in the African playoff final in November 2025, which resulted in Nigeria missing automatic qualification for the tournament. FIFA is expected to make a decision on this matter soon.

Meanwhile, Iran's football authorities are finalizing their pre-tournament schedule, having already drawn Group G, where they will face Belgium, Egypt, and New Zealand. The friendly match against Nigeria is part of Iran's strategy to prepare for the upcoming tournament, which includes two warm-up fixtures next month.
