Iran's Football Team Plans to Compete in World Cup Despite Risks

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has stated that Iran's men's football team intends to participate in the upcoming World Cup co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, despite warnings from U.S. President Donald Trump about potential safety risks.

Trump expressed concerns regarding the team's safety in light of escalating tensions following a U.S.-Israeli strike on February 28. Windsor Paul John, the AFC's General Secretary, indicated that they are monitoring the situation and have not received official communication regarding Iran's withdrawal.

He emphasized the AFC's desire for Iran to compete in the global event. Meanwhile, the Iranian women's football team captain withdrew her asylum bid in Australia, which has led to pressure on players regarding their return to Iran.

The AFC is awaiting further decisions from the Iranian teams regarding their travel plans.
