Nigeria Faces Food Security Risks Amid Iran Conflict

The ongoing conflict involving Iran has raised significant concerns in Nigeria regarding a potential food shortage and rising inflation. Analysts warn that disruptions in fertilizer supplies, particularly due to the threat of Iran closing the Strait of Hormuz, could severely impact agricultural output in Nigeria.

Dr. Muda Yusuf, Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise (CPPE), emphasized the urgent need for the Nigerian government to consider targeted fiscal concessions to address rising domestic fertilizer prices.

Mr. Shakin Agbeyewa, Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), noted that the disruption in fertilizer supply would negatively affect food production costs.

Mr. Omotund Banjoko from the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) echoed these concerns, highlighting the high costs of land and transportation.
