Iran Assembly of Experts Decides on Khamenei's Successor

The Assembly of Experts in Iran has reportedly reached a decision regarding the successor to the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who held the position for nearly four decades until his death. Mohsen Heidari Alekasir, a member of the Assembly, confirmed that a suitable candidate has been approved, although the identity of this candidate has not been publicly disclosed.

Mohammad Mehdi Mirbagheri, another member of the Assembly, also confirmed this development through a video carried by the ISNA news agency. The discussions surrounding the successor come amid rising tensions in the region, particularly between Iran and Israel, with recent Israeli military warnings targeting individuals involved in the appointment process.

Mojtaba Khamenei, the 56-year-old son of the late leader, has been suggested as a potential frontrunner, but analysts caution that the selection remains uncertain due to concerns about hereditary succession, which critics argue contradicts the principles established by the 1979 Iranian Revolution.
