Iraq Closes Border Crossings with Iran After Drone Attack

Iraq has closed three border crossings with Iran—Shalamsheh in Basra province, al-Shib in Missan, and al-Mandali in Diyala—after a drone attack on a Saudi Arabian pipeline, which was said to have originated from Iraqi territory. This closure occurred on Saturday, a day after the attack, as Iraqi authorities intensified their investigation to identify those responsible.

Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi dismissed the military commander in Missan province following the incident. Drone launchers were reportedly found near a border crossing in Missan.

Iraqi authorities stated that the closure is part of an intelligence effort to track down the perpetrators and prevent their escape. A joint investigation with Iran has been approved by al-Zaidi to locate the drone launch platforms.

The Iraqi security media cell announced that administrative and security reorganizations at several border crossings have begun, and intelligence activities have been intensified to address breaches at these crossings.
