Irrigation farming in Nigeria is under threat as falling grain prices, particularly for rice, maize, and wheat, have led many farmers to seek irrigated land for dry season production. Dr.

Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi from the Ministry of Agriculture expressed concerns about the impact on farmers' investments. The government has implemented a dry season program targeting 500,000 hectares of land for wheat production in the first phase, followed by rice and maize.

Despite Nigeria having a high number of dams and river basins, farmers are struggling with limited support, affecting their yearly output and income.
