Peter Obi Denies Stepping Down for 2027 Election

Claims circulating on social media suggested that Peter Obi had withdrawn from the 2027 presidential race and endorsed Seyi Makinde, misidentified as an APC candidate. However, during the inauguration of Makinde's campaign office in Abuja on September 7, 2026, Obi acknowledged Makinde's qualifications but did not indicate any withdrawal from his own candidacy.

Reports from Channels Television and Arise News confirmed Obi's ongoing role as the NDC presidential candidate. On September 9, Obi reaffirmed his commitment to the race via a post on his official X account, stating he was engaged in his campaign activities.

Furthermore, on September 10, he discussed his policies in an interview and reiterated that he had a party backing his candidacy. Fact-checking organization DUBAWA found no evidence of Obi stepping down, and the claim was deemed misleading.

Additionally, it was clarified that Makinde is a candidate of the Allied People's Movement, not the APC.
