Tanko Affirms Obi Will Withdraw If Anambra Debt Claims Proven

Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, confirmed that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), would step down from the 2027 presidential race if allegations of him taking loans and leaving debts in Anambra State during his governorship are substantiated. In an interview on ARISE Television, Tanko emphasized that Peter Obi has a history of taking responsibility for his actions and would honor his commitment to accountability.

He stated, “My principal always owns up to his own words, any time, any day.” Tanko further challenged critics questioning Obi’s financial record, asking if they would also withdraw from elections if their financial records were scrutinized. He posed a rhetorical question regarding the accountability of others in similar positions, highlighting the importance of transparency in political leadership.
