Confusion Surrounds 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations Host Country Change Reports

The 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) hosting situation has become uncertain following conflicting reports. During an award ceremony in Johannesburg, South African Deputy Minister of Sport, Arts, and Culture, Peac Mabe, announced that South Africa would take over hosting duties from Morocco.

However, the South African Sports Ministry quickly issued a correction stating that Morocco remains the official host until a formal decision is made. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has not released any official documents confirming the change.

The tournament is currently scheduled to run from March 17 to April 3, 2026, serving as a primary qualifying path for the 2027 Women's World Cup in Brazil.
