Sowore Condemns Court Ruling on ADC Deregistration

Omoyele Sowore, the president of the African Action Congress, reacted strongly to a Federal High Court ruling delivered by Justice Peter Lifu in Abuja, which ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and four other political parties. The court found that these parties had allegedly failed to meet constitutional requirements necessary for continued registration.

Sowore condemned the judgment as undemocratic and inconsistent with the principles of a multi-party system, criticizing the deregistration of parties that had already concluded primaries in preparation for future elections. He described the ruling as unjustified and asserted that such actions threaten the integrity of multi-party democracy in Nigeria, stating, "It shall not stand." The ruling affects the ADC, Action People's Party, Action Alliance, and Zenith Labour Party, which were found to have violated provisions of Section 225 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
