Wike Clarifies Controversial Threat to Seun Okinbaloye

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, clarified his recent statement that appeared to threaten Channel Television's news anchor Seun Okinbaloye with shooting. Wike explained that his comments were a reflection of his frustration with the current political system in Nigeria, which he believes is damaging democracy.

His remarks, made during a live television interview, sparked significant backlash, including condemnation from political elites and organizations such as the Nigerian Union of Journalists and Amnesty International. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar also addressed the controversy surrounding Wike's statement.

In response, the Independent Broadcast Association of Nigeria warned that they might boycott media engagements with Wike unless he issues a public apology. The association's chairman, Ahm Ramalan, and the general secretary, Fide Duker, expressed concern over the implications of Wike's comments during the live interview.
