Ely Wahi Under Investigation for Alleged Spot-Fixing

Ely Wahi, a 23-year-old forward representing Ivory Coast in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, is currently under investigation by French police for alleged spot-fixing activities. The investigation focuses on claims that Wahi deliberately sought to receive a yellow card during a Ligue 1 match between Nice and Metz on May 17.

Authorities are examining suspicious betting patterns linked to wagers placed on Wahi during the match. He was arrested on May 29 as part of an investigation opened by the Marseille Public Prosecutor's Office into allegations of organized fraud and corruption in sports.

Wahi has been released but is still under investigation, and the Ligue de Football Professionnel has confirmed that no disciplinary action has been taken at this stage. The LFP stated it is committed to safeguarding the integrity of its competitions and will take the strongest possible action against any compromising behavior.

Despite the ongoing investigation, Wahi is included in Ivory Coast's final squad for the World Cup.
