Ely Wahi Cleared to Travel for World Cup Match in Canada

Ely Wahi, a 23-year-old striker for the Ivory Coast national football team, has received approval to travel to Canada for a World Cup match against Germany. This decision comes despite an ongoing investigation into alleged betting-related offenses.

Initially, the Ivory Coast Football Federation indicated that Wahi would be unable to travel, but this was later revised. Wahi is set to participate in the match following his team's 1-0 victory over Ecuador.

A spokesperson for Canada's immigration minister declined to comment on the situation, citing the need for authorization for individuals involved in investigations. The investigation, which began after an unusual amount of betting was placed on a match involving Wahi's club, OGC Nice, has raised concerns about organized fraud and corruption in sports.

Wahi, who joined OGC Nice on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt, scored nine goals in 18 appearances and played a crucial role in helping his club reach the French Cup final.
