JAMB Addresses Hijab Incident at Ibadan CBT Center

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) addressed an incident at a Computer-Based Test (CBT) center in Ibadan, Oyo State, where a female candidate was allegedly asked to remove her hijab during the screening process on Thursday, April 16. JAMB's public advisor, Fabian Benjamin, stated that the action was taken by an "overzealous" ad hoc staff member who failed to adhere to the established guidelines of the board.

JAMB promptly intervened, clarifying that no candidate should be asked to remove their hijab, as such actions are not part of the official procedures. The board emphasized its respect for the religious beliefs of candidates and reiterated that there is no discrimination based on faith or dress.

JAMB assured that candidates' rights to express their religion, including through dress, are protected under its policies. The incident followed the circulation of a video showing the candidate being delayed due to the hijab issue, raising concerns about potential discrimination during nationwide examinations.
