Jigawa State Restores Abuja-Dutse Flights to Boost Economy
The Jigawa State Government has signed an Air Route Development Partnership Agreement to reopen scheduled commercial flights between Abuja and Dutse, aiming to attract investors and boost economic activities in the state. This initiative was first introduced during the administration of former Governor Sule Lamido from 2011 to 2015, coinciding with the inauguration of the Dutse International Airport.
After a period of suspension, former Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar attempted to revive the initiative towards the end of his tenure, which concluded in 2023, but it did not materialize. The current administration under Governor Umar Namadi has now revived the plan.
The agreement was signed at the Government House in Dutse, with Deputy Governor Engr. Aminu Usman representing Governor Namadi. Rano Airline will operate flights on the Abuja–Dutse route three times weekly, specifically on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, using a 50-passenger-capacity aircraft.
The Jigawa State Government will support the route initially to ensure its commercial sustainability.
