Jimoh Ibrahim Advocates for Nigeria's UN Security Council Seat

Jimoh Ibrahim, Nigeria's ambassador-designate, is actively seeking support for Nigeria's bid for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council. Speaking during a global parliamentary hearing in New York, Ibrahim highlighted that Nigeria has been without a permanent seat for 30 years, despite being a country that represents a third of the global population.

He emphasized that Nigeria's contributions to the UN and the need for African representation should warrant a permanent seat. Ibrahim noted that the absence of this representation is a concern for the nation and called for mechanisms that would allow inter-parliamentary voices to ensure that member nations adhere to the principles outlined in Articles 2(4) and 2(7) of the UN Charter, which address non-use of force and non-interference in domestic affairs.

He also pointed out that the ongoing security challenges in Nigeria are rooted in grievances that need to be addressed, particularly under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.
