Guterres Supports Nigeria's UN Security Council Bid

Guterres highlighted Nigeria's unique position to lead Africa towards becoming a superpower, citing its large population, sustained democratic governance, and vast natural resources.

He praised the economic reforms initiated by President Bola Tinubu's administration, noting Nigeria's leadership in stabilizing the Sahel and ECOWAS regions despite its own security challenges. The discussions emphasized Nigeria's commitment to multilateralism and the need for comprehensive reform of the UN system to reflect evolving global realities, with Shettima reiterating Nigeria's call for stronger representation in global decision-making.
