Joan Laporta Resigns as FC Barcelona President, Triggering Leadership Shake-Up

Joan Laporta has formally resigned as the President of FC Barcelona, citing the need for a clear path for a fresh campaign. This move comes ahead of the upcoming board elections scheduled for March 15.

Laporta's decision is not directly linked to immediate sporting or financial issues but is viewed as a calculated step to launch a new campaign. Several prominent figures, including Víctor Font, Xavi Vilajoana, and Marc Ciria, have declared their candidacy.

Following Laporta's resignation, eight members of his board have also stepped down, necessitating a restructuring of the club's executive framework. Rafa Yuste, the previous sports vice president and a close ally of Laporta, has been appointed as the interim president until the current mandate expires on June 30.

The interim leadership team, including Josep Cubells, Alfonso Castro, and others, will oversee the club's operations during this transitional period. Despite the ongoing political turmoil and board restructuring, efforts are being made to ensure operational stability at FC Barcelona.
