Joan Laporta Re-elected as FC Barcelona President

Joan Laporta has been re-elected as president of FC Barcelona, winning 68% of the votes in the election held on Monday. His main opponent, Victor Font, received nearly 30% of the votes, while the rest were void or invalid.

This victory secures Laporta a further five-year term starting July 1, 2026, marking his second consecutive term and fourth overall as president, having previously led the club from 2003 to 2010. During his earlier tenure, he notably appointed Pep Guardiola as manager.

Following his re-election, the 63-year-old Laporta expressed confidence, stating, "No one will stop us," and emphasized an exciting year ahead. He pledged to strengthen the first team and redevelop the Nou Camp, while also defending the club against various challenges.

The election saw a turnout of 42.34%, with almost 48,500 members casting their votes. Barcelona is currently facing financial difficulties but has enjoyed a successful season, claiming a domestic treble and leading Real Madrid by four points in La Liga, while preparing for the Champions League last 16 after a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United in the first leg.
