Goodluck Jonathan Declared Eligible for 2027 Presidency by Former Aide Amid Legal Dispute

Former presidential aide Denge Josef Onoh affirmed that Goodluck Jonathan is constitutionally eligible to contest the 2027 presidential election, responding to claims by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu. Onoh stated that the issue of Jonathan's eligibility was settled by a Federal High Court judgment in May 2022, which clarified that Jonathan's assumption of office in 2010 did not count towards his constitutional term limit.

He also highlighted that any challenge to the court's decision would be barred by res judicata. Onoh emphasized that Jonathan's election in 2011 exhausted his entitlement to serve two full terms.

The matter may still require judicial interpretation despite the court ruling.
