Goodluck Jonathan Eyes 2027 Presidential Ballot

Dr. Tom Ohiker, a member of the African Democratic Congress, announced in an interview that former President Goodluck Jonathan will appear on the 2027 presidential ballot as part of a coalition effort to return to power.

Although Jonathan has not formally accepted the coalition's proposal, he has indicated a willingness to consult widely before making a decision. Ohiker clarified that Jonathan's interest in the presidency should not be misinterpreted as a mere game, emphasizing the complexity and seriousness of the electoral process.

The coalition plans to make a formal announcement regarding Jonathan's candidacy within two days. However, Jonathan's eligibility to contest remains uncertain due to a pending legal dispute in the Federal High Court, which challenges whether his return to the ballot would violate the term limit provisions of the 1999 Constitution, given that he served as president from 2010 to 2015 and conceded defeat to Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 presidential election.
