Jonathan to Contest 2027 Presidential Election, Says Agbedi

Fred Agbedi, a member of the House of Representatives, declared on Wednesday that former President Goodluck Jonathan will contest the 2027 presidential election, running on the platform of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). This announcement comes amid ongoing political developments as Nigeria approaches the next general elections.

Agbedi's statement followed a ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja, which confirmed Jonathan's eligibility to seek office again, dismissing a suit filed by Johnmari Jideobi that aimed to bar him from contesting due to having previously taken the oath of office twice. The court ruled that Jonathan's first term, which began after the death of President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua in 2010, does not prevent him from seeking election again.

This ruling has sparked renewed discussions within the PDP about Jonathan's potential political comeback nearly twelve years after leaving office. Additionally, Agbedi raised concerns regarding the recognition of the PDP by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) despite a court ruling against certain political groups.
