Court Allows Goodluck Jonathan to Run for 2027 Presidency

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ruled that former President Goodluck Jonathan is eligible to participate in the 2027 presidential election. This decision comes after a waiver was reportedly granted to Jonathan by a faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki.

The ruling was made in response to a legal challenge by Abuja-based lawyer Johnmari Jideobi, who sought to restrain Jonathan from presenting himself as a candidate for the presidential race. Jideobi requested the court to bar the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from accepting or publishing Jonathan's name as a presidential candidate, arguing that the former president's eligibility was in question under specific sections of the 1999 Constitution.

However, Justice Peter Lifu ruled on Tuesday that Jonathan remains eligible to seek office again, allowing him to proceed with his candidacy for the upcoming election.
