JTB Unveils Lagos N1.7 Trillion Revenue Growth Blueprint

The Joint Tax Board (JTB) unveiled a N1.7 trillion revenue growth blueprint for Lagos, emphasizing the significance of tax autonomy and independent administration in driving fiscal growth. During the event, which marked the conclusion of the 159th meeting of the JTB, stakeholders gathered to discuss strategies for enhancing compliance and delivering dividends to citizens.

Ayodel Subair, Chairman of the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service, stressed the importance of maintaining an independent tax authority free from political interference to optimize performance and hire the best staff. The event was attended by various tax administrators and revenue stakeholders across Nigeria, who deliberated on developing a robust tax system.

Olusegun Adesokan, the Executive Secretary of the JTB, noted that Lagos serves as a template for wider reform, attributing its success to the legacy of former Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who granted the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service operational autonomy. The JTB aims to continue playing a pivotal role in shaping Nigeria's tax system through professional collaboration.
