Judge Withdraws From ₦212 Billion Malami Case; New Judge Expected Soon

Chief Judge John Tsoho of the Federal High Court has withdrawn from a ₦212 billion asset forfeiture case involving former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) obtained an order for the interim forfeiture of assets worth ₦212.8 billion on January 7th.

The case involves properties allegedly acquired through Mr. Malami's unlawful activities in Abuja, Kano, and Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.

Judge Emeka Nwite, who issued the interim forfeiture order, announced on Tuesday that the case file will be returned for reassignment to a new judge. The order for the interim forfeiture of 57 properties was issued on January 6th, with proceedings adjourned to January 27th for the issuance of a final forfeiture order.

Despite not being on the list of cases heard on Tuesday, lawyers representing the EFCC were present in court. The new judge is expected to be assigned once regular court sessions resume.
