Judgment Stalled in ADC and Accord De-registration Suit

On May 20, 2023, the delivery of a judgment in a suit seeking the de-registration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Accord Party, Action Peoples Party (APP), Action Alliance (AA), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) was stalled due to the absence of Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja. The case alleges constitutional breaches by the mentioned political parties.

The court had previously scheduled the judgment for June 5, 2023, after hearing arguments from various parties involved, including the incumbent governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, and governorship candidate Oluwafemi Abayomi Adebambi from Ekiti State. The registrar announced that the matter would not proceed as scheduled due to Justice Lifu's official duties outside Abuja.

The court had cautioned against granting undue stay proceedings and dismissed a joinder application, stating that the political parties already represented in the suit made the inclusion of individual members unnecessary.
