Judy Austin Sues Rita Edochie for N1bn Defamation

Actress Judy Austin has initiated legal proceedings against veteran actress Rita Edochie in the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, over alleged defamatory statements. Austin is claiming N1 billion as general damages for defamation, as stated in a writ of summons she shared on her verified Instagram account.

The suit identifies Austin as the claimant and Edochie as the defendant. In addition to the monetary claim, Austin is requesting the court to mandate Edochie to publish a full, unreserved retraction and apology in at least two widely circulated national newspapers and on her social media platforms.

Furthermore, Austin seeks a perpetual injunction to prevent Edochie and her associates from disseminating the alleged defamatory statements and demands the removal of such statements from all online platforms. Austin is also asking for N50 million to cover the costs of prosecuting the suit and 10 percent post-judgment interest on the awarded sum until fully paid.

The suit was filed by Austin’s legal representatives, including Anozie Obinnaya Obi, SAN.
