Juju Music Legend Ahuja Bello Dies At 83

Juju music legend Ahuja Bello has passed away at the age of 83, as confirmed by his son Adetunji Bello in a statement on Sunday. Born Ismaila Dele Bello on August 24, 1942, in Iseyin, Oyo State, Bello started as an electronic technician before fully embracing music.

In 1976, he founded the Ahuja Bello Golden Eagles Band, which went on to dominate the Nigerian Juju music scene in the late 1970s and 1980s. Known for his vibrant stage performances and hit songs like "Awa ti Danfo Ariya ti de," Bello's career reached new heights when he traveled to London to record the Ahuja London project, exposing him to a global audience.

Despite a setback due to a ghastly accident in 1982, Bello's contribution to Juju music has secured him a revered place in Nigeria's cultural history as one of the pioneers.
