ADC to Proceed with Congresses Despite INEC Warning

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared its intention to continue with its congresses nationwide, despite warnings issued by the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan.

The ADC's national public secretary, Mallam Abdullahi, accused the INEC chairman of misrepresenting a court appeal concerning the status quo of leadership disputes within the party. The ADC emphasized that the INEC's interpretation of the court order distorts judicial directives.

The party asserted that the INEC does not have the authority to determine internal party matters strictly within the jurisdiction of the court. The ADC plans to conduct its congresses in compliance with its constitution and the Electoral Act, arguing that the INEC's monitoring role does not invalidate their internal processes.

The ADC's statement concluded by urging the INEC to adhere strictly to its constitutional and statutory mandates while dismissing comparisons to past electoral disputes.
